When laying tiles and panels outdoors (e.g. balconies and terraces), the CERAfix 315 system balcony film should be used in conjunction with CERAfix 402 Plus! CERAfix 420 can be mixed in to increase flexibility/deflection.


During installation, the product-specific properties of the covering materials (tendency to discolour, curling etc.) and the installation recommendations of the tile and panel manufacturers must be observed. We recommend carrying out a trial adhesion if necessary!


Thin-bed mortar that has begun to harden must not be made workable again by adding water or fresh mortar!


When laying large tiles (from 30 x 60 cm), mortar should be applied to the backs of tiles in a scratch coat or using the buttering/floating method to improve adhesion.


Contact between the cement-based tile mortar and the magnesite screed leads to destruction of the magnesite screed by chemical reaction. Backwards moisture load from the substrate must be prevented using appropriate means. Magnesite substrates must be mechanically roughened and primed with CERAfix 103 epoxy resin. Spread plenty of fresh TEGAfix 430 quartz sand over the fresh epoxy resin layer. After the specified waiting time of approx. 12-16 hours, perform laying work.


CERAfix 402 Plus is a hydraulically curing mortar that must be protected against the effects of water and frost until fully cured, which could take several days in unfavourable weather conditions. Protect against exposure to water and frost during this time!


When laying tiles on calcium sulphate-bonded substrates, the primer/mortar combinations in accordance with DIN 18157-1 or ZDB information sheet must be observed.


Take suitable measures to prevent mortar from solidifying in the wall-floor connection!

Application area

For secure laying of ceramic coverings such as stoneware, earthenware, stoneware tiles (water absorption ≤ 0.5 %), clinker brick, brick tiles and ceramic mosaic tiles. CERAfix 402 PLUS tile adhesive is suitable for secure laying on all substrates in accordance with DIN 18157 Part 1. CERAfix 402 PLUS tile adhesive can also be used for bonding as a system tile adhesive in CERAfix sealing systems. Check whether the substrates are suitable for the relevant water impact classes before application.


It is also suitable for bonding lightweight panels, such as dense-foam tile backer board.

Instructions

Substrate


Follow the requirements of DIN 18157 Part 1 for professional tile installation. CERAfix 402 PLUS tile adhesive is suitable for secure laying on all substrates in accordance with DIN 18157 Part 1, including concrete, autoclaved aerated concrete, plaster, poured tarmac screed of hardness class IC10, cement and calcium sulphate screeds, heated screeds, masonry and gypsum plasterboard. The substrate must be dry, load bearing, flat, free from cracks and adhesion-impairing substances, and must have a largely closed surface structure and sufficient strength. Before laying on calcium sulphate screeds, the surface must be sanded, vacuumed and primed with CERAfix 101. Smooth concrete surfaces must be roughened and absorbent surfaces primed with CERAfix 101.


Heated screeds must be heated before covering, in accordance with technical regulations. To assess whether it is ready for covering, perform a moisture measurement using a CM device. The CM moisture content must not exceed 2.0 CM% for cement screeds on insulation or a separation breather, 0.5 CM% for calcium sulphate screeds without underfloor heating and 0.3 CM% for calcium sulphate screeds with underfloor heating. Perform CM measurements in accordance with the most recent version of the "Interface coordination for heated floor constructions" work instruction.



Application


In a clean container, mix CERAfix 402 PLUS tile adhesive with tap water until there are no lumps.


  • For laying tiles and panels:

Mixing ratio: 6.75 to 7.75 litres of water: 25 kg of CERAfix 402 PLUS tile adhesive


  • For laying CERAfix 315 balcony membrane system and associated system parts:

Mixing ratio: 8.7 to 9.0 litres of water: 25 kg of CERAfix 402 PLUS tile adhesive



Leave to mature for approx. 3 minutes, then stir again. Apply the adhesive mortar within the working time. Spread the mixed adhesive over the substrate and comb through with a notched trowel suitable for the tile size. Lay covering materials within the adhesive drying time (finger test).



Bonding the CERAfix 315 balcony membrane system


The substrate must be laid with a minimum gradient of 1.5 % in the drainage direction. Mix the CERAfix 402 PLUS tile adhesive with a higher proportion of water (8.7-9.0 l water/25.0 kg CERAfix 402 FX), apply to the substrate and spread over an area approx. 10 cm wider than the width of the membrane using a 4-6 mm toothed trowel. Cut the membrane to the required size using a knife or scissors and lay it over the adhesive bed (thick fibre-bonded fleece against the adhesive). Carefully and firmly press the CERAfix 315 balcony membrane system into the adhesive bed using a smoothing trowel. Ensure that the tape is fully embedded and bonded across the entire surface! Check for any uncovered areas; the adhesive is the right consistency if the balcony membrane is completely saturated with adhesive. CERAfix 402 PLUS tile adhesive is also used to bond the CERAfix 316 sealing tape system, CERAfix inner and outer corners, CERAfix collars etc.


In the floor area, roughen and clean the thin bed flanges and degrease with Inoclean (art. no. 0890 107 500). Use a 6 mm notched trowel to spread CERAfix 301 sealing slurry over the thin-bed flange and in the overlapping area on the CERAfix 315 balcony membrane system. Place the CERAfix floor sealing packing into the slurry within the adhesive open time, ensuring a tight connection without any air bubbles or creases.


Apply CERAfix 402 FX system adhesive over an area approx. 1 cm wider than the relevant CERAfix sealing membrane system components. Place the CERAfix sealing membrane system components into the fresh layer and apply uniform pressure to smooth out any creases. All components must be bonded so that it is not possible for water to get behind the membrane. Due to the fact that the CERAfix 315 film has a fleece-laminated backing, the sealing tapes and pre-formed parts should only ever be connected to the top surface of the membrane (labelled)!



Tiling over the CERAfix 315 balcony membrane system


For CERAfix 402 PLUS tile adhesive, mix with the standard amount of water (6.75-7.75 l water/25.0 kg CERAfix 402 PLUS tile adhesive). On the wall, ceramic coverings can be laid directly over the freshly bonded CERAfix 305. On the floor, suitable tread boards can also be laid over freshly laid CERAfix 315 balcony membrane. Lay tiles and panels directly over the membrane as normal. Mix the mortar and spread over the surface, then comb through with a notched trowel suitable for the tile/panel size. Lay covering materials within the adhesive open time. In outdoor areas and areas permanently exposed to moisture, care must be taken to ensure that there are no cavities between the tiles/panels and the CERAfix 315 membrane.
